We’re excited to unveil a major upgrade to how we manage and prioritize workplace safety. HCSS Safety will be launching on April 15th and is designed to simplify safety reporting, inspections, and communication, making it easier and faster for every worker to stay safe. With these new digital tools, you can quickly submit safety observations, conduct equipment inspections, report near misses, and track certifications—all from your phone or tablet.

Digital Safety Observations (Positive and Negative) (All Employees & Visitors)
Remember those old BBS cards? It’s time to say goodbye! We’ve replaced them with new digital safety observation signs—you’ll find them posted on job boards, in the East and West Shops, Decon Buildings, and office areas. Take a moment to check them out and get familiar with the new signs:
- Each sign includes the job number and job name to match the project location.
- To make a report, just scan the QR code and fill out your safety observation—whether positive or negative—and add images, if needed.
- You can also save the observation form homepage to your mobile device’s Home Screen for quick and easy access anytime.
- We now have the ability to assign follow-ups to foremen or supervisors if a safety observation requires additional action.
- Users also have the option to add their contact information or submit anonymously.
Digital Inspections (All Employees)
Remember those little white equipment inspection cards? You can say goodbye to those too! We’ve pre-loaded 198 inspections across 10 different categories for employees to complete digitally. Here are the categories available at launch—more will be added over time:

Note: QR codes are being installed on equipment to make it easy for operators to scan and pull up the correct inspection. You will need the HCSS MyField App and the HCSS Field App to use this feature.
Operators – If you identify an issue with your equipment during your pre-trip or post-trip inspection, a notification will be automatically sent to Equipment360 to alert the shop. You’ll also be able to view the shop’s notes and updates on the repair process, keeping you informed every step of the way.

Digital Near Miss Reports (Foreman/Supervisors)
Need to report a near miss? No more paper forms to fill out! Simply connect with your Foreman or Supervisor, and they can submit the near miss report digitally using our new system. Once submitted, the appropriate teams are instantly notified to review and take any necessary action. This streamlined process helps ensure near misses are documented quickly and can be used to improve jobsite safety across all projects.
Meetings (Foreman/Supervisors)
Foremen and Supervisors can now digitally document a variety of meetings, including:
- Daily Huddles
- Incident Reviews
- JSA/JHA/AHA Meetings
- Safety Meetings
- Toolbox Talks
We’ve also pre-loaded 1,000+ toolbox talk topics to give crews the flexibility to choose subjects that best match their current tasks, conditions, or safety concerns. These digital records help ensure better accountability, consistency, and visibility across the organization.
JHAs/JSAs (Foremen/Supervisors)
We’ve loaded 181 different activities across 19 categories to help streamline your Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and Job Safety Analyses (JSAs).
- Need a JHA for loading trucks or installing silt fence? It’s already in the system—pre-filled to save you time and reduce repetitive typing.
Foremen and Supervisors now have multiple options for creating and managing JHAs/JSAs:
- Copy and paste from a previous JHA for similar tasks
- Start from a blank template if the task isn’t covered in the pre-loaded library
We’ve also built out additional resources to support you:
- A PPE Library with 300+ PPE items across 14 categories (e.g., Body Protection, Environmental Protection, Eye Protection, etc.)
- A Primary Hazards Library with 330+ hazards across 20 categories, making it easier to identify and select relevant hazards for each task
These tools are designed to help you save time, maintain consistency, and strengthen safety practices on every job site
Digital Incident Reports (Foremen/Supervisors)
Say goodbye to more paper forms! If you need to report an incident, just notify your Foreman or Supervisor, and they can now handle the entire process digitally.
Foremen and Supervisors now have the ability to submit the following types of incident reports directly through our digital system:
- Injury
- Equipment Damage
- Vehicle Damage
- Theft
- Utility Strikes
- Property Damage
- Environmental Incidents
- Witness Statements
- Employee Involved Reports
Submitting these forms digitally means incidents are reported faster, follow-ups can be tracked more efficiently, and the information is shared with the right teams in real time.
Skills & Certifications (All Employees)
As mentioned in a recent email, all employees can now view their own skills and certifications directly within the HCSS MyField App.
Foremen and Supervisors also have access to view skills and certifications for their crew members.
- Need someone with a specific qualification for a project? You can easily search for employees with the right skills or certifications, check expiration dates, and make sure your crew meets all required qualifications before the work begins.
This feature helps ensure compliance, safety, and efficiency across all job sites.
